Due to popular demand Dharma Publishing Academy is offering, for the first time in the US, a comprehensive teacher training based on Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche’s book Kum Nye – A Tibetan Yoga (formerly called Kum Nye Relaxation).

Kum Nye, introduced by Tarthang Tulku in the West in the 1970’s, has its roots in Tibetan medicine and in texts that describe living in accord with physical and universal laws (vinya). Kum Nye is a mind-body healing system that relaxes body, senses and mind through body-awareness. It uses postures, slow movements, and breathing methods to restore wholeness – integrating body, senses and mind. The basic practice of Kum Nye is to activate the flow of feeling throughout the body, restoring this most vital sensory ability. In accumulating and expanding the inner experience, we connect to larger rhythms of the universe, tapping into abundant vitality and creativity.

Kum Nye is often first used to reduce stress in body, speech, and mind; in this program it begins with a process of inner healing, but Kum Nye can go much further, opening the senses, easing the heart, and relaxing mind’s repetitive patterns and discover meditation: our natural state of ‘just being’.

Kum Nye practice first teaches us ‘how to feel’ in a sensing, neutral manner. Feeling and thinking—and the possibility of knowing— make up every experience. The world of feeling and sensing freshly and directly has been neglected in most of our lives as our conditioning has taught us to ‘live mostly in our heads.’ Kum Nye restores this most vital, sensory ability.

By learning the language of the body and establishing a home of feeling, instead of a home of a conditioned self, our inner knowingness wakes up. Through Kum Nye we make contact with the reality of our nature. In the process scarcity turns into abundance, and inner joy becomes a reliable companion.

All great experiences are based on feelings such as inner balance, love, compassion, joy, and even understanding needs to be a feeling in order to become embodied.

Kum Nye works!

We invite you to learn Kum Nye in depth, embody it, and then share it with others. We are dedicated to making Kum Nye available globally. You can play a key role in this wholesome activity, benefitting yourself and others.

The training

Trainers who complete this training can of course apply it in their work and set up a Kum Nye practice for students interested in the practice of Kum Nye. Monies earned can be kept by the trainer.

The teacher training will consist of three sections:

  • What is Kum Nye?
  • How to practice Kum Nye?
  • How to teach Kum Nye?

No prior experience is required, but you have to start promptly with individual online eKum Nye self-study programs level 1-5, 6, 7 and 10. A second important self-study component is the line-by-line reading of Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche’s book Kum Nye – A Tibetan Yoga plus commentary by Arnaud Maitland – approx. 30 hours.

This training is not available for people living in the Netherlands, Germany or Brazil, since our associated Kum Nye Centers in Amsterdam, Cologne, Sao Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro offer the same program in their native languages. The program is open to anyone in the rest of the world, by webinar. Or come and join us for a full nine-day retreat at Dharma College, Berkeley, California.

The retreat schedule will be with the following sessions:

Session one: 6.30 – 7.30 am; Session two, which is the webinar session: 8.30 – 12.30 with two pauses; Session three:  4 – 6 pm; session four: 7.30 – 8.30 pm.
