13th Annual Kum Nye Meditation Retreat

Body – Awareness

Introducing Mind to the Treasures the Body Offers

September 1 – 13th, 2019

Haus Ohrbeck, Osnabrück, Germany

In Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche’s teachings, I have found so far that the word ‘awareness’ is one of the most important terms to understand in our human development.   For me, it has been ’body-awareness’ that brings me closer and closer to begin experiencing and appreciating this term.

Underneath the surface level of the maze of thoughts and images is a clear and beautiful awareness, an awareness which is not ‘of’ anything, but is total openness. To go beyond the idea to the experience itself is a difficult jump. The main obstacle is the subjective orientation of mind, the observer, always creating a duality within experience. We skip over the totality of experience, breaking it down into details, like an image, an emotion. Relaxing, releasing ‘holding on’ is the way for ever-present awareness to reveal itself.

This pristine awareness belongs to nothing, not to us, not to any place and time. No one owns it. It is completely open, a new dimension.  This universal level of awareness includes all and everything. Nothing is rejected or excluded. We become very clear, totally balanced. (Openness Mind pp. 117- 124)

The word ‘awareness’ has its own unique connotations. Possibly ‘infinite field of knowing energy’ may help us look in the right direction for proper understanding. Space, unbounded continuum, and infinite intelligence are the matrix of all and everything. It is because of awareness that the senses operate and knowing is possible. We, all sentient beings, are ‘pure awareness.’  To not be separate from it, to fully embody ‘pure awareness’ can be our path.

It is so pivotal to get at least a glimpse of sensing the senses, powers of mind, and the preciousness of having a human body.  Kum Nye meditation develops this experience. Accessible to each one of us.

In this retreat, we will use Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche’s three Kum Nye books to first awaken the body’s aliveness and opening the senses before we turn our attention towards experiencing open awareness, free of the inherent tensions of duality and polarity.  We will be aiming for mind at ease and open experiencing, without holding on to judgment, guilt or fear.  ‘We are not holding on to anything, and nothing is holding on to us’.   We regain the spontaneity of our youth, the creativity of our individuation.

September 1-13, 2019 Dharma Publishing Academy offers a 12 day Kum Nye Meditation retreat to discover open awareness by cultivating body-awareness to embody openness and access its intelligence, knowing powers.
